Here’s the thing about Treasure of the Sierra Madre. You hear over and over how great it is, how it’s a classic, it’s Werner Herzog’s favorite movie, and it’s on all the right lists. Then you see it, and you know what?
MY, but it’s a great picture.
It is so consistently watchable and engaging. Even when I have a good idea of what it’s about, and how many times that kind of story has been told, and I even can guess the ending, none of that mars it, because Huston knows how to let us settle in anyway and enjoy the proceedings.
